El descubrimiento de antiguos vestigios en Zamora-Chinchipe en el cantón Palanda, Ecuador, transformó la comprensión del origen del cacao fino de aroma. Estudios genéticos revelaron una diversidad única de cacao en esta región amazónica, desafiando la creencia previa de que el cacao fino de aroma provenía principalmente de otras áreas de América Central. Zamora-Chinchipe se reconoce ahora como un epicentro crucial de este cacao de prestigio mundial, con perfiles de sabor distintivos que van desde notas florales y frutales hasta toques de nueces y especias.

This discovery has underscored the historical and cultural importance of Ecuador in the history of fine aroma cacao, solidifying its position as a key producer in the high-quality chocolate industry.
